GT by CITROEN

The design of GTbyCITROEN reflects a quest for optimal aerodynamic design. The show-car is a vehicle of flowing, taut lines, stretched to the extreme. GTbyCITROËN is a style replica of a vehicle from the digital world. The car is the result of a partnership between Citroën and Polyphony, designer of the driving simulation game Gran Turismo 5 on Playstation 3.The two-seater GTbyCITROEN is designed to inspire speed and power, with an oversized rear-end, dynamic styling, sculpted lines and sharp graphics. The cabin of GTbyCITROEN,designed to seat two adults, expresses the grand touring vision behind this show-car. The on-board ambience allies premium, extensively worked materials with a more high-tech effect for the driving position. Although I highly doubt that the new GTbyCITROEN Concept will ever make into the real world. Looking beyond its taut, dynamic lines, this racing car features innovative equipment such as enlarged air intakes at the front, a flat underside, and a mobile spoiler and air diffuser at the rear.

The cabin of GTbyCITROËN, designed to seat two adults, expresses the grand touring vision behind this show-car. The on-board ambience allies premium, extensively worked materials with a more high-tech effect for the driving position.
The layout of the low driving position was dictated by driving pleasure. The aim is for the driver to be able to concentrate on the road, assisted by a head-up display clearly displaying driving information. To promote maximum concentration, the driver of GTbyCITROEN has a head-up display for driving information. Using red LEDs, this system projects key driving information – such as speed and navigation data – onto the windscreen in the driver's direct line of vision. The mid-engine concept measures 4.96m in length, 2.08m in length, and only 1.09m in height, being about half a meter longer and ten centimeters wider than the famous Bugatti Veyron. It is about 10cm lower, though.

Citroën C5

Citroën recently unveiled its new C5 sedan, a model which has substantially more powerful and dynamic lines than its predecessor. The assertive front end of the new C5 is reminiscent of the C5 Airscape concept recently unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, as are its tail lamps and the distinctive waistline running from the lower portion of the headlamp to the rear, intersected by the front wheelarch.

In profile, the C5 has a fluid, aerodynamic form concealing its large proportions: 4.78m long, 1.86m wide and 1.45m tall. The extended roofline underlines the flowing proportions of the body while a large glazed area allows light into the cabin. The C5's concave rear window treatment - a Citroën identifying element as in the C6 - and two-part 'boomerang lights' combine to impart an assertive look to the rear end.

Fitting with its exterior design the C5 has an inviting interior that benefits from its 2.82m wheelbase and conveys an impression of quality. The taut lines symbolize precision, while the flowing curves express dynamics. Dissociated from the central console, the dashboard enhances the impression of space and is fitted with flush closing air vents. The now familiar fixed-hub steering wheel is also a prominent feature.

Citroen C-Cactus concept

Citroen has taken a bold approach to eco-friendly design with the C-Cactus concept car. Scheduled to be unveiled in Frankfurt next week, the C-Cactus is built on a Citroen C4 platform but its design focuses on simplicity, using only around half the components of a conventional car.

The concept's minimalist approach helps to keep production costs down whilst engineers stripped all non-essential features from the car. The front bumper section makes up the lower part of the rear tailgate and the car's front end consists of just two parts: the fixed hood comprising the front fenders and a flap to access the vehicle maintenance functions. The windscreen, windows and tires are all recyclable components, as are the unpainted steel door panels.

Interior materials also reflect the innovative ecological direction of the C-Cactus' design, employing environmentally-friendly cork and felt for many parts and a patterned floor that uses recycled leather taken from off-cuts. The front seats comprise just two parts: a comfortable, molded, integral-skin foam part for the seat and a solid monoblock frame to hold the former in place and fix it to the floor rails.

Mechanically, the concept is fitted with an efficient hybrid HDi drivetrain that combines a 70bhp diesel engine with an electric motor. Citroen claims the C-Cactus offers fuel economy of 83mpg and emits just 78g/km of CO2 while also featuring a ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle) mode.

Citroen C5 Airscape concept

Following the C-Airlounge of 2003, the C-Airdream of 2005 and the C-Airplay of 2006, is the C5 Airscape.

Due to make its international debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, this new Citroen concept acts as a spoiler for the forthcoming upper-medium C5 replacement dues soon. Unlike the forthcoming production car, the concept is a four seat coupe cabriolet which is aiming to show a new level of premium quality for the brand.

The Airscape also places emphasis on the new environmental powertrain innovations it showcases: a reversible starter-alternator, super-capacitors and regenerative braking. Together they allow the car to run at low speeds on electric power and have a smooth cut in and out of the V6 diesel engine, and minimise fuel consumption overall.
