Subaru Impreza WRX STI

Subaru has finally released detailed pictures of its range-topping new Impreza WRX STI which debuts at the Tokyo Motor Show tomorrow, October 24. This follows the recent release of a moody studio shot which gave very little away apart from highlighting the turbocharged car's substantially wider body.

While the five-door body style is derived from the Impreza, the WRX STI design is much more aggressive, with a powerful design language that emphasizes its performance credentials. The model not only sports shortened front and rear overhangs, but also a longer wheelbase. And the new WRX STI also features large protruding wheelarches for a ground-hugging stance.

Beneath the hood is a new horizontally opposed 2-liter turbocharged four cylinder engine providing power to all four wheels through a six-speed manual transmission mated to Subaru's Symmetrical AWD system.

Subaru Exiga concept

Subaru's Exiga concept aims to combine the agile driving performance of the company's cars with luxurious interior accommodations for up to seven adults.

From the exterior, the Exiga looks poised and sporting, more so than traditional 7-seater vehicles. The goal of the design was to evoke an athletic stance, which Subaru sought to achieve using firm surface texture and well-defined dimensions. The rakish and flowing LED headlights lend a sense of agility and playfulness to the front face, while the A-pillar angle has been optimized for enhanced visibility. The rear is notably more aggressive, indicative of its sporting pretensions.

Inside, the Exiga concept reveals an inviting and luxurious cabin, with an expansive glass roof for a perception of increased space. Pearl-colored leather upholstery and crisp blue accents highlight the interior, while a clear blue display zone accentuates the instrument panel, running through the width of the vehicle. It doubles as an entertainment unit for passengers. The rear seats can be arranged in variety of different configurations and amenities such as folding rear tables in the front seatbacks further enhance versatility. Indirect lighting in the ceiling and doors illuminates the cabin at night.

Subaru G4e concept

The Subaru G4e is a futuristic environmentally-friendly electric vehicle concept designed to change the public's perception of electric cars.

An image of heading toward the future is expressed by the triangle-shaped body, which enables the G4e to appear lithe and aerodynamic. The front windscreen is a rakish form leading toward the angular DLO in the upper section, while a taut shoulder line fades out as it reaches the front of the car drawing attention to pronounced wheelarches for a dynamic, sporting tone. But it's more than simply an appearance. The concept achieves a 0.276Cd and features advanced technologies to decrease overall body weight.

Instead of being 'heavy' and 'cramped' the G4e has turned traditional perception on its head, realizing packaging that can accommodate up to five passengers in comfort. The high-performance next-generation lithium-ion batteries are stored underneath the floor for even more useable space within the cabin and a lowered center of gravity. Bright colors liven the interior while a large display screen links the front window to the floor, mimicking a flowing waterfall.
